Kouichi Ando
I graduated from a technical school in 2009 and joined my first company. At that company, I mainly worked on infrastructure construction in on-premises environments, web system development centered around Java, and migration projects to cloud environments. This is when I developed a strong interest in cloud environments (although it was not AWS at the time, but the Government Common PF). After working there for nine years, I left the company. At my second company, I was involved in infrastructure construction in cloud environments, Java development using the SpringBoot framework, and projects related to languages I found interesting (such as Go, Python, and TypeScript), as well as projects using agile development methods and GraphQL in addition to REST APIs. After working there for about three years, I changed jobs in April 2022, and that's where I am now.
At my first company, I didn't have the freedom to choose my projects and had few opportunities to work with technologies that interested me, so I decided to change jobs to broaden my opportunities to engage with new technologies and gain diverse experiences. At my second company, I had some freedom to choose projects, but the company was not enthusiastic about increasing my unit price, so my salary did not increase. I later found out that more than 30% of the margin was taken by intermediaries. As I was thinking about seriously starting to save money, I decided to change jobs. At that time, I received multiple invitations from the representative of Tech Reis. I was also invited by other companies, but I decided to join Tech Reis because it offered the best conditions to meet the reasons I left my first and second companies.
One of the triggers for leaving my first company was the lack of freedom to choose projects, which is now in the hands of the engineers at Tech Reis. While career advisors look for projects, we can specify our preferences in detail and have the authority to decide whether to participate in the project after the interview, which is impressive. Additionally, regarding financial aspects that led me to leave my second company, Tech Reis discloses the contract details, including the unit price of the projects, and clearly states the proportion that becomes my salary. As a result, a unit price increase directly translates to a salary increase, which is a significant motivation for working. Furthermore, the company actively promotes remote work, making it easier to include remote work in desired projects.
I feel that changing jobs was a good decision. As I mentioned earlier, I am experiencing the freedom to choose projects and an increase in salary.
Since I had quite a bit of freedom in my previous job, there has not been a significant change in work ease from an engineer's perspective. However, I feel that there is a good understanding of the value of engineers, making it easier to find well-conditioned projects. In this sense, it has become easier to work, including project transitions.
- Those suited for SES - Those who prefer working at project sites over in-house development - Those who are comfortable moving from project to project every few months to years and working in new communities - Those who are positive about starting new human relationships and can enjoy it without concern - Those who are motivated to improve their income and are willing to do what is necessary for it
I have always disliked the heat, so I chose a career where I could work indoors, and eventually found myself becoming an engineer. At first, I aimed to become a game programmer... (laughs)
I am part of the infrastructure team for a project to gradually migrate a real estate-related system from an on-premises environment to AWS. Currently, we are in the stage of technical verification and method consideration, and we are building environments on AWS daily.
I consider the ideal state (implementation method and realization method) and the currently selectable realization methods separately, and then decide on the appropriate measures.
I value considering both the pros and cons of my opinions and others' opinions, and deciding based on the suitability of each. What is non-negotiable is working remotely as much as possible.
They help with the engineers' whims and troublesome requests, which is very helpful.
Having been involved in infrastructure construction, frontend development, and backend development so far, I want to continue improving my technical skills to expand my skill set. Additionally, considering my age, I feel the need to start focusing on management and education as well.
This industry advances rapidly in technology, and I believe that continuing to do the same thing does not significantly improve one's skills. By not sticking to just one thing and being interested in various things, you can benefit your future self!
If you want the freedom in work content and salary while being a full-time employee rather than a freelancer, our company might be a good fit for you!
